Montezuma

Vivaldi’s recently discovered, rarely performed masterpiece is set in Mexico during the Spanish conquest that led to the end of the Aztec Empire. While this 18th century opera is a highly romanticized and naive take on the historical events of over 200 years earlier, it nevertheless is surprisingly sensitive and empathetic to the tragedy of the Aztecs as they fight for their land and the survival of their culture and people. Peter Kozma directs the production and conducts the Opera Neo Orchestra, performing on period instruments.

Meet the Opera Neo artists, one aria at a time! Enjoy an evening of beautiful music at the La Jolla Woman's Club as Opera Neo presents each of the twenty-three young artists singing their signature aria. The Gala performance will be followed by hors d'oeuvres, wine, and dessert with the artists. 

Allow yourself to be transported to Paris of the early 1900's in this special recital dedicated to the works of Reynaldo Hahn and his contemporaries. This one of a kind performance will feature Opera Neo’s Studio Artists and will take place at the La Jolla Woman’s Club on Friday, July 11 at 7:00pm.

Enjoy a curated buffet dinner and drinks along with an evening of Parisian songs by Reynaldo Hahn and his contemporaries, followed by a dessert reception with the artists and Opera Neo creative team.

Armida

Produced in collaboration with The Hungarian State Opera, Joseph Haydn’s rarely performed masterpiece is a unique take on a story from Torquato Tasso’s “Jerusalem Delivered” – an epic poem that served as source material for a whole slew of famous operas from Handel to Dvořak. Centered around the larger themes of Love and War, this piece delves into human psychology by exploring duty and glory in conflict with desire, passion, and commitment – all through the story of the magical love affair of a sorceress and a knight. The production, featuring young artists from the Hungarian State Opera Studio performing alongside Opera Neo young artists, is directed by András Almási-Tóth and conducted by Peter Kozma.

The Elixir of Love (L’elisir d’amore)

Donizetti’s delightful summertime comedy is a perfect mixture of romance, deception, jealousy, and the triumph of true love, with a sprinkle of hilarious social commentary. Peter Kozma directs the inventive production that will transport this evergreen operatic chestnut to a new and updated setting.
